The career incentive pay program offers pay differentials to:
- police officers of all ranks of the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department (V.I.P.D.),
- Virgin Islands marshals and probation officers of the Superior Court,
- corrections officers of the Bureau of Corrections and corrections officers of the Department of Human Services and
- firefighters, crew chiefs, and police officers in the Virgin Islands Port Authority and in the Virgin Islands Fire Service
- peace officers in the department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, the Department of Health, Environmental Health Division, and the Virgin Islands Legislature.
- enforcement officers of the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority and Lottery enforcement officers
Exempt employees as defined in 3 V.I.C. § 451a, are not eligible to participate in the career incentive program. However, exempt employees as defined in 3 V.I.C. § 451a, who are participating in the career incentive program under 3 V.I.C. § 570, as of April 11, 2022 are eligible to continue to participate in the program.
This incentive is a reward for furthering their education in the field of police, marshal services, corrections, and fire beyond the minimum qualifications set forth in the job class specifications for positions held by such employees once specific criteria have been met.
Note: To qualify for Career Incentive pay employee must have taken approved courses, police science, fire science, and criminal justice, including criminology, forensic science, fire prevention, accounting, public administration, or business administration and psychology.
